Unit Organization
Store couches and mattresses on end to save space and possibly rent a smaller unit.
- Use pallets to store items off the ground to allow air to circulate and to protect your goods from damage due to mildew.
- Cover your couch to protect it from possible damage. If you are planning to store upholstered furniture for any length of time it is a good idea to cover it.
- Store items you will need often in front for easy access.
- Leave a small pathway down the center of your unit to access items placed at the back and to avoid the hassle of having to move items each time you want to retrieve something.
- Place valuables out of sight and in the rear of the unit so as not to tempt anyone who walks by.
- Use mothballs, silicone bags, or cedar bags as fresheners.
- Leave refrigerators doors open. Block them open for safety.
- Do not store food (this prevents spoiling and keeps the unit free of orders).
- If its irreplaceable, don't store it.
- Remember insurance is your responsibility. Buy the appropriate amount of coverage for your goods. If its worth storing its worth insuring.
- Disassemble beds and tables. If a table cannot be disassembled, place padding on the floor and place the table on its top with its legs pointing up and store other things on top.
